My Musing ~ Meet Your Baker by Ellie Alexander

Meet Your BakerMeet Your Baker by Ellie Alexander is the first book in the new “Bakeshop” mystery series. Publisher: St. Martin’s Press, December 2014

Welcome to Torte—a friendly, small-town family bake shop where the treats are so good that, sometimes, it’s criminal.

After graduating from culinary school, Juliet Capshaw returns to her quaint hometown of Ashland, Oregon, to heal a broken heart and help her mom at the family bakery. The Oregon Shakespeare Festival is bringing in lots of tourists looking for some crumpets to go with their heroic couplets. But when one of Torte’s customers turns up dead, there’s much ado about murder.

This was a good read. I liked how the author presented this delectable tale that was enough to whet your appetite to enjoy from the first bite to the last morsel. The way the story flowed from chapter to chapter made it easy to follow the clues where the bevy of suspects kept me glued to the pages and that lead to some surprising twists, nice or otherwise. What I enjoyed most was that the preparation of the scrumptious baked goods was as much a monologue within the story. This nice and evenly paced whodunit boasts a lovable cast of characters, a small-town atmosphere with engaging dialogue that I want to stay and visit a lot longer. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Juliet in the next book in this enjoyable new series.
