First things first: A big Texas howdy to you from Lenny–that’s me–and my readers.
Next: A shout out to all the inhabitants of Broken Boot, Big Bend County, and creatures ginormous, puny, and somewhere in between currently reading The Little Dog Blog on the World Wide Web.
Writing a blog is fun and all, but it’s not what it’s cracked up to be. Other folks might enjoy sharing their feelings online, but most of them have fingers. You try slapping your nose against a keyboard for an hour at a time and see how you like it. Not to mention, I have to run to the other side of the computer just to hit the backspace. My owner, spunky waitress Josie Callahan, came up with this bright idea. Her way of keeping her journalistic muscles toned while saying what she really thinks about the mysterious events going on in our rustic, postage-sized town. After all, who could be offended at the scribblings of an adorable long-haired chihuahua?
Speaking of goings on, if you find you’re bored enough to bust open your billfold, I have just what the vet ordered. The town council, bless their hearts, is hosting another humongous event. This one’s The Homestead Days Festival. There’s a toe-tapping concert by Ty Honeycutt, a gifted guitar player and talented singer–or so he claims. Not to mention, the weekend’s headliner is The Jeff Clark Band, led by that too-sexy-for-his-hat Clark–or so says Patti Perez. (She’s my owner’s best friend since junior high, so I put up with her occasional high dives off the springboard of love.)
If music ain’t your thing. . .something must be seriously wrong with you.
Just kidding. There are other things going on in town. You might not want to attend the singer songwriter competition, but you can dress up like a Texas pioneer or fill your belly to overflowing with tasty Tex Mex.
Milagro is the place to find delicious fajitas and marvelous margaritas served by the friendliest folks in town, the Martinez family. And after you finish with flan be sure to kick up your bootheels at the only dance hall in the county with a real live mechanical bull, Two Boots.
(You like how I mentioned both the family businesses, Milagro and Two Boots? That should get me in good with Senõra Marisol Martinez, our household’s queen of cuisine. Shoot. She might give me some meat bones for a change instead of barring me from the kitchen.)
Well, I hear kibble a tumbling into my bowl. That’s all for now from The Little Dog Blog.
Hope to see you at The Homestead Days Festival this weekend. And don’t forget to try the guacamole. It’s to die for.
Adiós, amigos!
Lenny
The Good, the Bad and the Guacamole is the second book in the Taste of Texas mystery series, published by Penguin Random House, November 2016.
Tex-Mex waitress and part-time reporter Josie Callahan is about to serve up some Lone Star justice in this spicy Taste of Texas Mystery from the author of Here Today, Gone Tamale.
Tourists are pouring into the town of Broken Boot for the annual Homestead Days Music Festival. Opening the celebration at Two Boots dance hall is smooth-talking country singer Jeff Clark, the ex-boyfriend of Josie’s best friend, Patti Perez. When the charming Clark woos Patti onstage in an attempt to rekindle some sparks with his old flame, Josie fears her friend will end up as just one more notch on the singer’s guitar strap.
To impress her editor at the Broken Boot Bugle, Josie and her Chihuahua, Lenny, pursue the singer to Patti’s house, hoping for an interview. Instead, they discover Clark facedown in a bowl of guacamole with a bloodied guitar at his side. With Patti suddenly a murder suspect, Josie must use her reporter skills to find out who had a chip on their shoulder—before the killer double dips….

About the author
Rebecca grew up on the sugar beaches of the Florida Gulf Coast. Drawn to the Big Apple by the sweet smell of wishful thinking, she studied acting on Broadway until a dark-eyed cowboy flung her over his saddle and hightailed it to the Southwest.
Prior to writing, she always found a way to add a touch of the dramatic to her life from dinner theatre in Mississippi to playing a giant Furskin in the New York Toy Fair, plus plays and musicals.
She’s currently content to pour her melodramatic tendencies into writing the Taste of Texas cozy culinary mystery series set in far West Texas filled with sweet, Southern-fried flavor, delicious suspense, and scrumptious Tex-Mex recipes. Rebecca’s alter ego, Gina Lee Nelson, herds middle school thespians and occasionally writes sweet contemporary romance.
