Hi . . . I’m Meg. I’d tell you my last name except I DON’T HAVE ONE! At least not yet. I guess you can tell I’m more than a little miffed. You see, everybody in Snowflake has a last name. Lucky’s is Jamieson. Janie, the other waitress at the Soup Shop, is Janie Leonard. Elizabeth is Elizabeth Dove. Even Marjorie and Cecily have a last name – it’s Winters. I don’t know what my author was thinking, but she wasn’t think ing about ME when she neglected to give me one.
I’ve been described as short and plump, with a round face and glasses. Makes me sound like a geek, doesn’t it? And my author has blabbed about my terrible crush on Sage DuBois, the chef at the Spoonful. She can’t seem to keep her mouth shut about anything, that one. Sage is SO handsome though! Of course, my crush is going nowhere. He’s seeing the gorgeous Sophie Colgan . . . hate her! And I heard they might even be getting married, so it’s a no hope situation.
Anyway, I’m putting my foot down. I really need some attention here. Fortunately, my author has listened. 
She’s giving me some nice little scenes in the fifth book of the series which won’t be out for quite a while, but I can wait. Unfortunately, she’s still having trouble coming up with a last name for me. Can you believe that??? I’ve suggested a few, but they haven’t appealed to her.
So – here’s the deal. My author, Connie Archer, has agreed to seriously consider any suggestions for a last name for me. It’s a contest. If anyone out there in cyberspace who’s a fan of the Soup Lover’s mystery series, or even if you’ve just heard about all of us in Snowflake, Vermont, please, please suggest a last name for me. Please?
If the name you suggest is chosen, you will receive a copy of your choice of one of the three books (so far) in the Soup Lover’s mystery series, and a grateful acknowledgment in the fourth book of the series. Naming contest ends April 11, 2014.

The first book on this series was wonderful, but I have not read book two yet, and now with book three out in the bookstores, I need to get up to speed, don’t I? Yes, indeed. My suggestion for a last name for Meg would be Cirrus. Meg Cirrus. (yes, like Cirrus clouds.) Cirrus clouds sound like the description of Meg’s body type. 🙂 I know all about being chubby believe me. 🙂 I am a New Englander too, and with this series set in Vermont, ski country, other last name suggestions are: Meg Ravine, Meg Slope, Meg LeMountaine or LaMountaine, or simply Meg Blain like my married name is. 🙂 Thank you for the contest and the chance to win your latest book.

Since three books have left your “Miss Meg” without a last name, I decided that “Namen” would kind of say it all. My husband said and interesting last name is “Stansbury”. Then again, a soup book–why not “Goya” for the beans that make up 16 bean soup. Maybe she will find a long lost relative from the soup industry in a future book . But you know, anything with soup is good by me !! I just love soup and could live on it year round. Just to mix things up, how about “Scallion” as those art part of many soups too. Definitely want to read these books!! Mystery and soup!!

Well, being in Vermont, you could work off of Ethan Allan and the Green Mountain Boys….Ethan, Allan, Green. Having family from up East, could be Northway. But, I like the suggestion of Morrow and Phillips better!

There’s something to be said about alliteration in names and I like a lot of the above suggestions. I’ll throw in some more in the culinary range: Thyme, Cook, Potts, Graham, Pepper, Quinoa, and Parsley (would go well with Sage). And one more after a friend: Sheridan. This is fun. The physical characteristics you describe sounds like younger version of my grandmother. Her maiden name was Westervelt which is Dutch for West Field. I think you should go with Westfield. Meg Westfield would be a great name.
