Meet Lucky Jamieson by Connie Archer

Ten years ago, Lucky Jamieson left Snowflake, Vermont to attend college in Madison. She wanted to escape her small town roots and redefine herself. After graduation, she stayed on in Madison working at a series of dead end jobs, not at all sure where her life was headed. One day she receives a call and learns that her parents, Martha and Louis Jamieson, have been killed in a car accident on an icy road. She is devastated and wishes she had returned home sooner to spend precious time with her family.

Within a few days, Lucky decides that Snowflake is the place she wants to be. She wraps up her life in Madison and returns home where she has inherited her parents’ business — the By the Spoonful Soup Shop. As problems mount, she’s not at all sure she’s made the right decision but must forge ahead. Even when the fear of failure overwhelms her, the fate of her parents’ restaurant, beloved by the town, rests on her shoulders.

Snowflake has been hit hard by a sinking economy and Lucky learns the restaurant doesn’t have the reserves it needs to survive another blow. To make matters worse, her grandfather Jack, the only family she has now, is suffering from failing health. Jack has episodes of dementia and Lucky fears the worst. Jack has been doing his best to keep the business afloat in hopes that Lucky will decide to stay and make a go of the Spoonful. But when the body of a winter tourist is found frozen in the snow behind the restaurant, and their talented chef, a man who had a past history with the murdered woman, is arrested, the Spoonful’s business grinds to a halt.

Lucky Jamieson must do everything she can to clear her chef’s name before her business spirals into bankruptcy. Can she uncover the real murderer before it’s too late? Or will the clues lead her directly to the man she loves?

Connie Archer is the author of A Spoonful of Murder, the first in a new “Soup Lover’s” series from Berkley Prime Crime. Connie was born and grew up in Boston, and has traveled throughout New England. Writing a series set in Vermont has been like a visit home to idyllic small towns and country roads. She lives in Los Angeles with her family.
