I Love Books

– look at what I'm reading

A Stroke of Magic by Tracy Madison

A Stroke of Magic by Tracy Madison is the 2nd book in the “Gypsy Magic” paranormal romantic series.  Publisher: Love Spell (Dorchester Publishing), July 2009

You know how freaky it is, to expect one taste and get another? Imagine picking up a can of tepid ginger ale and taking a swig of delicious, icy cold peppermint tea. Alice Raymond did just that. And though the tea is exactly what she wants, she bought herself a soda.

One Stroke of Magic And Everything Has Changed

No, Alice’s life isn’t exactly paint-by-numbers. After breaking things off with her lying, stealing, bum of an ex, she discovered she’s pregnant. Motherhood was definitely on her “someday” wish list, but a baby means less time for her art and no time for recent hallucinations that include this switcharoo with the tea. She has to impress her new boss, the ridiculously long-lashed, smoky-eyed Ethan Gallagher, and she has to deal with her family, who have started rambling about gypsy curses. Only a soul-deep bond with the right man can save her and her child? As if being single wasn’t pressure enough!

What is happiness without a little magic and love?  Alice will soon find out as she is expecting a magical child and her soul mate is waiting for her. My rating: 4 stars

A Taste of Magic by Tracy Madison

A Taste of Magic by Tracy Madison is the first book in the new “Gypsy Magic” paranormal romantic series. Publisher: Love Spell (Dorchester Publishing), February 2009.

A young, divorced bakery owner discovers she’s inherited her gypsy ancestress’s fabulous magical powers, but learns that when seeking true love with a hunky new neighbor, a person has to be careful what she cooks up.

This is about Elizabeth Stevens, owners of A Taste of Magic bakery, who on her thirty-fifth birthday is presented with a gift by her grandmother Verda that has been passed down through the generations.  Elizabeth doesn’t know she has this gift until a wish of hers come true after baking a cake for her ex-husband’s upcoming wedding.  After several wishes, her grandmother tells her that their bloodline is from a gypsy and Elizabeth embraces her magical power.  Elizabeth learns to cope with her new-found powers and begins to live her life instead of living in the past.  This was an entertaining and enjoyable story. I love the characters and can’t wait to meet them again in the next story.  [4 stars – really liked it]

Like A Charm by Candace Havens

Like A Charm by Candace Havens. Publisher: Berkley, February 2008

From the acclaimed author of Charmed & Dangerous comes a sassy new paranormal romance about a gorgeous librarian who sees dead people.

Kira Smythe never thought she’d end up back in her hometown of Sweet, Texas. But now that her high-powered job, along with her five-year plan, have gone right out the window, she’s back where she started, staying with her hippie, tofu- obsessed parents-except that somehow she’s inherited the local library. At least there’s a gorgeous guy in town who seems quite smitten with her. So what if he’s got a few secrets up his sleeve? After all, Kira’s got her own secrets. Like the dead people who won’t stop talking to her. Or the magical books on the shelves. Or the fact that someone who’s very much alive seems determined to push her over to the other side.

Kira Smythe, who witnesses a tragic event and her life as she knows it disappears first when she heads home for parental comfort and then begins to see what life is all about. While recuperating, she loses her job, runs into a college friend, meets a potential boyfriend and re-discovers the people who helped shaped her childhood. There’s a hint of paranormal in this quirky romance story which I enjoyed.
